What language should I learn next?

“What should my next language to learn be?”, you might ask yourself. I think about this every day. I cannot help myself (just to let you know: it will probably be French, Arabic or Swahili), because learning a new language is such a pain-in-the-ass-challenge, and SUCH a reward at the same time.

It’s difficult to choose between the more than 7000 languages in the world, but there’s a good excuse to choose Spanish. It’s one of the most widespread languages in the world, and spoken by more than 400 million speakers! For me, coming from the tiny country Denmark with ca. 5.5 million inhabitants, it's difficult to grasp how many people 400 million actually are. But it’s a lot!

The fact that Spanish is such a popular language to learn nowadays in Europe, and that it isn’t too difficult if you already, like me, speak Germanic languages, was reason enough for me to choose Spanish. In my upcoming blog posts, I’ll start teaching you some simple Spanish words and phrases, and it will (hopefully) be the start of a series of language posts for me.

I want to add this beautiful family tree of languages at the end of this post.
